Letters of acceptance delight Chinese freshmen

Almost two months after Gaokao, China's national college exam, anxiety-ridden candidates finally breathed a sigh of relief after receiving acceptance letters from universities and colleges. Right now, many of them are busy sharing their good news on social media such as WeChat and microblogs.

Since the start of the new century, letters of acceptance have became more fashionable and functional, with a sense of design, in China. This year, universities and colleges are putting more effort on letters of acceptance to show their individuality and appeal more to students.

Peking University

The letter of acceptance comes with a special CD named A Preview of Peking University. There is an E-book, a mini fiml, E-cartoons and a 3D RPG game in the CD. Freshmen can learn how to register, receive a campus ID card, select courses, get food in the dinning hall, participate in community and go to the library by playing the game.

Tsinghua University

Freshmen will receive two gifts this year. One is a holographic letter written by Qiu Yong, the headmaster, and the other is The Ordinary World, a book by famous writer Lu Yao. They will receive an introduction to the campus, a campus card and recruitment information along with the gifts and the letter of acceptance.

Renmin University

The design of the acceptance letter uses vertical typesetting with traditional water and cloud lines. On the cover, there is also a bright red stamp which says "Model of the nation, pillar of the society".

Wuhan University

The acceptance letter from Wuhan University looks very much like Renmin University's, with the same vertical typesetting as well as traditional water and cloud lines. Some people even questioned whether it is plagiarism.

The university explained on its official microblog on Tuesday that they've used such a design since 2014. Meanwhile, there is a frame on the cover of the acceptance letter which is different from Renmin University's.

Fudan University

In the envelope from Fudan University, freshmen will get both the letter of acceptance as well as a lovely hand-drawn book designed by Zhou Ying, a graduate of the Institute of Philosophy. In the 20-page book full of cute cartoons, students will become familiar with the layout of campus, transportation and nearby restaurants.

South China University of Technology

The design of the university acceptance letter looks cute and friendly with 25 cute cartoon images, which symbolize 25 institutes in the university, on the red cover. Freshmen will also receive a poster with the cartoon images as a gift. Some netizens said in jest that it was a gift from the "affiliated university of the South China Kindergarten of Technology".

Xi'an Jiaotong University

The university takes the technical route released an app. When students download the app, they can receive an E-paper-of-acceptance, relative information and a guide for freshmen. They can also check their dormitory assignment with the APP.

South China Agricultural University

In this university's letter of acceptance, green is the dominant hue, which refers to being full of vigor like plants in summer. The more striking part is the QR Code in the letter. After scanning the code with a cellphone, students can get all kinds of information about the university.

Beijing Normal University

The university used a traditional print style with vertical typesetting and paper with a dark pattern. Its looks is full of classical charm and won praise from many students.

Shanghai University of Finance and Economics

Bamboo slips were widely used for writing before the invention of paper in China, and the university took it as inspiration for the cover of its acceptance letter. The look is classical styling and some freshmen said they felt like they had time-traveled to ancient times when they received it.

Zhejiang Agriculture and Forest University

Freshmen at this university received a unique gift. Their letter of acceptance takes bamboo as raw material and use special cutting techniques to make it. On the Internet, it's known as the most scientific and technological acceptance letter in China.

Shaanxi Normal University

Freshmen at this university will be moved when they get their acceptance letters. Seven elderly professors from the university spent one week writing all the acceptance letters with a Chinese brush. The youngest is 60 years old, while the oldest is more than 80 years old.

Nanjing University of Information Science and Technology

Subway line three in Nanjing, capital of Jiangsu province, came into use in this April, which brought great convenience to the universities in the city's far north. Nanjing University of Information Science and Technology is just one of them. In its acceptance letter design, metro elements are highlighted. Students will receive three vouchers for subway tickets along with the letter.
